One of, if not, the highest quality fig you can grow. Where reliability meets with top tier flavour.
Background
Introduced in the US where it rapidly gained popularity. Smith originated from Croatia, eventually making it's way to France where it was grown by the Becnel family, whom later immigrated to the United States, where they opened a nursery called "Becnel Nursery".
Flavour profile
Very sweet, like candy, with a rich syrupy berry flavour. Very indulgent, leaving you satisfied after eating just a couple. Common for this variety to drop honey from the eye.
Observations
It takes Smith a couple years to show it's true level of productivity. Once it reaches this point, it will pump out figs like there is no tomorrow! Unmatched split resistance, can dry on the tree. Smith requires full sun and to be trained into an open canopy to allow ample light penetration in order to produce fruit reliably.
